How to customize taskbar your Windows 11

If you’ve recently upgraded your PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11 You may notice that your taskbar isn’t as flexible and maybe not as effective as it was prior to the upgrade. For instance, the old popular Start menu, with its customizable Live Tiles is now gone.

The search bar is no longer in the taskbar but can be accessed by clicking first on the Start menu, which is an additional step. (Although it is true that Cortana does not include in the search box is regarded by many, at the very the very least, as an advantage.)

Right click on an active icon and select “Pin to taskbar”

Another thing to note is that the taskbar has been permanently attached to the bottom of the screentherefore if you’re more comfortable placing it placed on top on the screen the opposite side of it, then you’re out luck.

As you can suppose, Windows users are already offering fixes to at the very least some of these issues provided you’re comfortable with tweaking the settings in your Windows Registry. For instance, there’s a registry which claims to allow you to change the position of the taskbar up to the highest point on the display and another one that allows you to alter how big the bar appears. These apps allow you to personalize Windows 11 to bring the taskbar back to life.
The possibility is that Microsoft will restore certain capabilities in the future updates of this new OS. In the meantime, let’s focus on the ways you can modify the existing Windows 11 taskbar.

Add an app to the taskbar

You can also pin an app to your tasks from the “All apps” menu.
Pinning an app to the taskbar near the bottom might be a bit, strange. There are a variety of options to deal with it:

If an application is currently running the icon of that app will appear in the taskbar and have the line below to indicate that it’s active. If you would like the icon to remain on the taskbar after you close it, click right-click on the icon and choose “Pin to taskbar.”
Right-click on the active icon and choose “Pin to taskbar”
If the app isn’t working but the icon for it is visible on your desktop, there’s a way to pin the app onto your Taskbar too. Right-click the desktop icon, then click to “Show more options.” A more extensive menu will pop in the middle; approximately two-thirds down will be “Pin to taskbar.”

It is also possible to click”Start,” click”All apps,” click on “All apps” button, and then right-click the app you’re looking for. If you do not find “Pin to taskbar” in the menu that appears choose “More” and you’ll see “Pin to taskbar.”
You can also pin an app on your taskbar using menu “All apps” menu.
Uninstall an application from the taskbar
The majority of apps are easy to get rid of: simply right-click on the icon and choose “Unpin from the taskbar.”

Some icons require a bit more effort to get rid of. It’s the Start Menu icon, which is as would be expected, not removable. However, there are four additional icons that cannot be removed, but they can be concealed. The easiest method to accomplish this is:

Right-click to open the taskbar.
Choose “Taskbar settings.” (You may also find it by clicking “Settings” > “Personalization” > “Taskbar.”)
Switch off the icons for icons – “Search,” “Task view,” “Widgets,” or “Chat” — that you wish to block.

You can hide four of the standard taskbar icons.

You can block four of the common icon icons for the taskbar.
Your icons should be moved to the left
People who have used Windows 10 (or 7 or older versions) have a habit of using the Start menu from the lower left edge of their screen. If you find that your memory of muscle is causing your hand to drift to the corner and you want to change it, move the icons in the center of the screen so that they’re left instead.

Right-click the taskbar, then select “Taskbar settings.”
Click “Taskbar behaviors.”
Search for “Taskbar alignment” and click on the to the right, where it reads “Center.” Select “Left” instead.
Close the settings screen, and you’ll notice that the icons for apps in the taskbar are now to the left, along with icons for Start Menu located in the corner.
You can drag icons from the left to the center on the taskbar.

In addition in addition, the “Taskbar behaviors” section of the settings allows you to change more than simply moving them to your left. You can also disable the taskbar (something which has been a function of the taskbar for a long time) and display an indicator on apps with taskbars to inform you if you’re able to see unread messages, manage the way that the taskbar functions on different displays and display an uncluttered desktop by clicking in the right-hand edge on the taskbar.

Taskbar behaviors include hiding the taskbar as well as showing messages that have not been read.
Overflow icons for the Taskbar and corner icons
Although the taskbar’s icon for the corner and an overflowing display don’t have a new look I’ve never really understood what they were prior to that. To be honest when I first heard the term “Taskbar corner overflow,” I imagined a plethora of icons for apps spilling out of the screen similar to Niagara Falls.

It turns out that the corner icons are actually the ones located in the right-hand corner of your taskbar the ones that display the time and date, battery status as well as your volume level and Wi-Fi status as well as other information. The overflow icon is the small pop-up menu which appears when you click the arrow left of these corner icons.

You can move the icons from the center to the left of the taskbar.
In the majority of cases the icons that populate the overflow windows are intended to alert you whenever there’s something that has to be completed or messages are arriving or updates are required. This is especially useful for applications, like Discord that typically is running in the background. you can turn them off without difficulty by right-clicking the icon and then looking for the “quit” selection.

Although most corner icons included in Windows are fixed, some include the Pen menu and the Touch keyboard and the Virtual touchpad — which may be hidden. They are accessible on the taskbar settings menu which lets us change icon to the left. simply click on “Taskbar corner overflow” and switch off the icons you don’t want to be seeing.

The menu for overflow lets you manage applications that are running on the background.

Taskbar behaviors include hiding the taskbar and showing unread messages.

browser in Windows 11

How to change your default browser in Windows 11

How to change your default browser in Windows 11

If you’ve recently upgraded your computer to Windows 10 to Windows 11 You may have seen that whenever you click the link to a website or PDF file or any different file types you’ll be taken directly to the Microsoft Edge browser. In the latest version of Windows, Microsoft seems to have become more active in promoting its own apps over applications that were installed as defaults prior to the upgrade. This means that Edge was suddenly the default browser.

Windows 11

Typically, the first time you enter another browser that’s not Edge like, for instance, Google Chrome — the browser that is not Edge will ask you to make it your default. However, the procedure for changing the default settings for defaults in Windows 11 has become more complicated than before Windows 10. This means that you won’t get that helpful request — or, if there is one, you will lead you to a confusing webpage that is titled App > default applications. If that’s the case, here’s how to change.

Switch default browsers

If you do not wish for Edge to become your preferred browser and your preferred browser isn’t willing to change it for you, or if it is offered, but directed yours to the default apps page mentioned above there’s how you can change to the default. For this instance, I’m running Google Chrome, but this will work with any other browser you’ve installed on your computer.

Windows 11

  • Select Settings > Apps > Default apps
  • In the section Set the defaults of apps, you can either scroll down until the preferred web browser appears or enter the name into the search apps field. Select the application.
On the top of the list of your browser’s options, There should be the “Set your default” click.
  • On the top of your list you’ll likely see a line that says Select [browser’s name] as Your default internet browser and to the right there is a button that reads Make default. Click the button.
  • A variety of related to browsers will be listed below, in an underhead that says Set default type of file or link. If you click the Set default button, a few of them, but not necessarily all will be switched between Edge to the preferred browser.
  • Windows 11
“Set default “Set default” will redirect important kinds of files to your web browser. You can also choose to set them separately.
  • Check for formats of the files you were assigned by Edge For example . HTM, .HTML, HTTP, HTTPS, and perhaps . PDF (unless you have a different PDF reader that you prefer). Select any that has not changed and you’d like to switch.
  • Make sure to be aware of the fact that there might be certain kinds of files that don’t support your browser an alternative.

Notice that when it was first released, Windows 11 made it very difficult to switch default browsers. However, depending on the preferred browser the process of switching could be much more straightforward than this. As an example, at the time this article was written in the beginning, the first time I started Firefox it asked me whether I wanted it to be the default. I said yes and then when I was in the default applications section of the setup I discovered the following: Firefox is now selected to be the default application for. HTM, HTML, .HTTP and . HTTPS files.

The Firefox default wizard is able to change certain — but not all of the browser’s file settings.

It won’t fix everything.

But wait, there’s more. Even if you change the default browser to one different from Edge but you’ll still be able be using Edge as the default browser for many Windows applications. For example, you can open Windows 11’s latest Widget pane (by clicking the Widgets icon in the taskbar, which appears to be a two-paned window) Click to open one of the articles you see in the pane — and the button will bring up Edge.

If you find this annoying you find it annoying, there could be an app that can help. To access Edge-specific links, you have to follow the steps below:

  • Visit Settings > Applications > The default apps.
  • Scroll down until you’ll see Select the defaults for link type.
  • Click on it to open the search box marked the defaults for Link Types enter Edge.
  • Under the name Microsoft Edge You’ll see (a little redundantly) Microsoft Edge. When you click that, you’ll find any other browsers you can open these specialized hyperlinks.

It’s interesting to note that If it’s Chrome or Firefox and you won’t be able to see them as options. If you download the Brave browser and you will find Brave as an alternativeIf you select this option, every time you hit a news source within the Widget pane it will show up in Brave.

Windows 11

Another option is a program known as EdgeDeflector. It was developed to intercept hyperlinks within Windows 10 that were Edge-specific and then rewrite them on in the background so that they could be opened with your default internet browser. I conducted a bit of research and discovered that its most recent version of the program, v1.2.3.0 is compatible with Windows 11.

I installed the app and followed the instructions for setting up. However, even though it worked on most hyperlinks however, when I clicked an article from the news sources listed in the Widgets pane the link didn’t work as the link was opened in Chrome but no graphics went through. I’d recommend keeping an eye on this application however…

Microsoft fixes printing gremlin, Windows 11 upgrades ends that block on

Microsoft finally fulfills its promise to fix a printing issue that was holding back the latest Windows 11 update.

The troubleshooting solution will fix the printing problem on affected machines. If that problem was preventing you from installing the 22H2 update, then there is even more good news.

Windows 11 upgrades

According to the update, “Once the problem with the printer has been resolved, you can remove the safeguard and upgrade to Windows 11 version 22H2.”Some users of Windows 11 22H2 found that they were unable to jump to because their printers depend on the Universal Print Class and the IPP Class drivers. The printers were unable to use printer-specific capabilities and would default to basic defaults.

This meant that the printer wouldn’t offer color, duplex, or two-sided printing. Custom settings and handling of resolutions greater than 300 dpi would also be out of the question. Microsoft placed a compatibility freeze on Windows devices that use printers with these drivers. This prevented them from upgrading to version 22H2 and offered workarounds to those who weren’t willing to wait.

Windows 11 upgrades

Even though this troubleshooting upgrade is now available (it should automatically download, and install), it may take up to 48 hours for the 22H2 upgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 11 to be offered. Redmond engineers suggested that restarting the system and checking for new updates could speed up the process.

You can manually fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling printers that are using these drivers. This will force Windows to use the most recent version. Other Issues have occurred, including Daylight Savings Time changes in Jordan.

There are reliability issues with SSL/TLS handshakes for establishing secure connections. Signing in with Windows Hello may also not work after you upgrade to Windows 11 22H2. Microsoft offered a solution, essentially saying that users could use passwords to sign in instead of fingerprint recognition, a PIN, or face recognition. This was resolved earlier this month.

Microsoft is still investigating issues with provisioning packages that are not compatible with the latest updates. Microsoft suggests that you provision your Windows device prior to the 22H2 update to avoid the problem. A compatibility problem exists between Windows 11 (and certain drivers for Intel Smart Sound Technology) (SST), which could lead to a blue screen.

These include updates to the Start menu, faster search, Quick Settings, better local and current event coverage in your Widgets boards, and the No. Tabs in File Explorer. This allows Windows to anticipate your needs and save time.

Technology can empower us all – to remove obstacles and allow people to participate and connect. Nearly one in five people use accessibility features on their PCs. With this release, we continue our commitment to making Windows accessible for all. A set of new accessibility technologies will be available. These include system-wide live captions 2 which automatically generates captions from all audio content on Windows 11. Voice access (preview ), which allows you to control your computer and author text with your voice. Natural Voices for Narrator 2 mirrors natural speech better, creating more pleasant-sounding audio to aid in browsing or reading the web.

People and their families are concerned about online safety, privacy, and security. Windows 11 is the latest version of Windows. Microsoft receives over 43 trillion security signals each day to support its comprehensive security solutions. We’re now introducing Smart App Control 3 to make it easy for you to download any app that you want. We know security threats never stop once you close your laptop. That’s why we created the Defender application for Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscribers. Microsoft Defender for individuals enhances Windows’ security features and provides additional protection for your Android, iOS, and Macs. Microsoft 365 customers living in the U.S. will soon be able to receive identity theft monitoring as part of their Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions.

Empowering people

Enhancements to Snap layouts

People have always relied on the PC to accomplish complex tasks. The new Windows 11 2022 update includes enhancements to Snap layouts and the Focus feature. Performance and battery optimizations are also included. This will allow you to be your most productive.

Enhancements for Snap layouts

Snap layouts in Windows 11 are a revolution in multitasking. They allow users to optimize their view for multiple documents or apps at once. Snap layouts are now more flexible thanks to improved touch navigation and the ability to snap multiple browser tabs within Microsoft Edge.

Focus session, Do Not Disturb in Windows 11

To help minimize distractions from distracting you from your task, we’re introducing Do Not Disturb and Focus sessions. Windows will automatically turn on Do Not disturb when you start a focus session. This turns off notifications and disables taskbar badges. The Clock App integrates with Focus, which launches a timer that helps you focus and reminds you to take breaks.

Windows is the best place to create, connect and play

We hear from customers and from you that your computer is being used for more things than ever. As more people use Windows to communicate, create and game, PC usage is increasing. This update includes new features such as Windows Studio Effects 4 to enhance video and audio calls, create tools, and updates to Microsoft Store.

Video calls are essential for all aspects of your PC, from work and community meetings to connecting to friends and family. The new Windows Studio camera and audio effects make it easy to look and sound great on conference calls. They are enabled by advanced AI, including Voice Focus to make sure you are heard, Background blur to make sure only you are seen, Eye Contact so you can make better connections with the people you’re speaking to, and Automatic Framing to ensure that the camera follows you wherever you go.

Clipchamp for Windows 11

People are creating more video content as the creator economy grows. Clipchamp is now available as an inbox app for Windows 11. This update will make video editing easy with templates and effects.

Windows is still the best place for games. This update will provide performance optimizations to improve latency, and unlock features such as Auto HDR or Variable Refresh Ratio on windowed gaming. Game Pass is built into Windows 11 via the Xbox app and allows players to access hundreds of high quality PC games. Visit Xbox Wire to learn more about the latest in gaming.

The right content is key to a great PC experience. We redesigned Microsoft Store for Windows a year ago to make it more accessible and easier to use. It is a one-stop-shop for all the apps, games, and TV shows that you love. We are now expanding the Amazon Appstore Preview into international markets through our partnership. More than 20,000 Android(tm), apps and games will be available to Windows 11 devices with the feature-specific requirements. We are excited to announce that we have expanded our app and game catalog. Additionally, we will be moving on to the next stage in the Microsoft Store Ads pilot. This will allow developers to get their content in front the right customers. For more information about the Microsoft Store on Windows, please visit this blog.

Providing added security, management, and flexibility for the workplace

Focus session and Do Not Disturb in Windows 11

Today’s most powerful productivity tool is the PC. We know that organizations need tools to securely manage multiple Windows endpoints, regardless of where they are located, in order to keep their employees engaged and productive. The new Windows 11 2022 update delivers critical new security features as well as new management tools to improve IT efficiency.

Windows 11 offers layers of hardware-software integration for powerful, outof-the-box protection starting the moment you turn on your device. We’re constantly innovating. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen detects when users enter their Microsoft credentials in malicious applications or on hacked websites and alerts them. Windows Hello for Business now has a presence-sensing feature. Devices equipped with presence sensors can be used with Windows Hello to log you in whenever you approach, and to lock your device when leaving. IT professionals can also provide remote support via the cloud to ensure security and real-time assistance.

Smart App Control for Windows 11

Smart App Control is also valuable for small businesses and consumers. Smart App Control is available on all new Windows 11 devices and clean Windows 11 2022 Update installations. It blocks malicious macros, script files, untrusted or unsigned apps, and script files from running on Windows 11. Your employees will be able to use the tools that they need while your company is protected. Smart App Control is built on the same AI that powers Windows Defender Application Control. It can determine the safety of any application before it runs on your device. This is a great option for companies that don’t yet use a modern device management tool (MDM), such as Microsoft Intune.

Providing continuous Windows innovation and value

Windows Studio effects in Windows 11

We are determined to continue to deliver value and innovation to Windows and Microsoft services such as Microsoft Edge, Microsoft 365, and Game Pass, in order to keep the PC playing a greater role in our lives.

As you know, details matter. Windows 11 2022 Update contains many subtle but crucial changes that will help you be more productive and creative.

This update will also improve Windows Update. Windows Update now recognizes carbon, making it easier to reduce carbon emissions. Windows Update schedules installations when devices are connected, plugged in, and turned on. This is because Windows Update uses lower-carbon electricity sources to power the electric grid. To help reduce carbon emissions, we have also changed the default power setting for Sleep and Screen Off to make it more efficient.

We will be releasing new features to Windows 11 more often than the annual update, as we shared in February. This is possible by using the many update mechanisms that we have, including Microsoft Store updates and servicing. We are excited to continue this momentum with additional experiences in October.
